Death of an Industry Leader

Harold Marshall Nix Jr., inventor of Bristol Finish Wood Coatings and founder of Coating Technologies USA Inc., passed away May 2, at the age of 57, after a long battle with cancer. He was an industry leader, a dedicated husband, a loving father, and an avid sailor.
Marshall was able to quickly establish himself as a successful entrepreneur. He was the founder of two different companies: Cad Source Technology, which designed circuit boards in the early 1980s, and Coating Technologies, precision engineered coatings established in July 1991.
He began working at Signature Finish in 1987, where he co-invented Honey Teak, a unique finish for woods. Marshall decided to break off from the company when he created his own formula, Bristol Finish Wood Coating, after he could not find a wood coating for his sailboat that could bear the ruthless Florida sun. His attention to detail was evident in every product he invented, dedicating years to making the product perfect before introducing it to the public. Bristol Finish Wood Coating became known as premium wood coating, not only for marine but also for architectural industries.
Bristol Finish is sold via the Web, through independent retailers, and West Marine stores across the United States. The product is also sold in Australia, Canada, the Caribbean, and South America.
It was not always straight business for Marshall. He was adventurous and fun to be around, taking on activities such as racing motorcycles, riding a unicycle, or running laps with his inline skates.
Marshall was born on February 5, 1954 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was laid to rest May 7, 211, and a commemoration was held in his honor at Davis-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory in Melbourne, FL. – C.V.
